| Details: This seawall failed during the hurricanes of 2004, and the wall had actually been breached. (See FAQ's)
Upon inspection of the seawall, the day after hurricane Frances, the wall had been breached, at aproximately, the center point of the wall. What most likely occurred was, at some point during the storm, the already deteriorating wall panels could have allowed a small hole in the structure to open. Once water was able to get in and open an area up behind the wall, it would have taken very little time for the wall to start being broken down by the 8 to 10 foot breaker waves assaulting it.
This project was especially difficult due to several tremendous 'Nor'easter' storms that struck an already severely eroded beach. During a two week period, losses due to material lost, amounted to over $ 15,000.00. |
