| Details: Upon first inspection of the site, it was evident that as water moved through Turkey Creek, sand was washed out from under the concrete embankment due to the shallow embedment of the retaining walls.
Both the East and West embankments of Malabar Bridge over Turkey creek needed to be repaired to prevent failure of the bridge.
Repairing these embankments included the use of sectional barges, which had to be pushed through narrow Turkey Creek. These barges were used as working platforms for both the utilization of equipment and the transportation of rip rap material.
Rip rap was hand placed waterword of the retaining walls. The embankments were cleared of existing broken and failed concrete. Fill material was brought in and compacted to fill the existing voids. The existing concrete embankments were patched using concrete filled fabric. |
